For an Earl..... shield shape should date it.

Does it have any hatching on it?

This may not be British. A British peer's helmet is normally turned to face the side, and the coronet is usually placed directly on top of the shield, with the helmet above it. The front-facing helmet is more characteristic of Dutch and Belgian heraldry.

The helm of the sovereign (king, queen, etc.) is golden, stands facing the viewer (affronté) and has six or seven bars, also of gold. The children of the sovereign (Princes of the Blood Royal) use the same helm on their arms.

* Systematic use of helms to denote rank didn’t happen until the beginning of the 17th century.

The Arms above show a simple quartering and not elaborate, this normally indicates an old line.

The shield shape, in British Heraldry, is not before 1700.

At a guess I would say Prussian/Saxony that type of Heraldry?
