Default Gilding of bronze OSDs

Have other members come across OSD badges that have been gilded, presumably to make "sweetheart" brooches?

If so, how can the gilding be removed, or even should it be?

Pardon my confusion; I have never seen nor heard of a bronzed OSD gilded badge.
If you could provide an example for clarification?

I believe I do have one example. I'm just happy the way it came. Period gilding, so why do anything to it??!! Tempering could just make things worse.

Regards.

It is odd.
The example I have is a 4th Royal Irish Dragoon Guards with blades replaced by a brooch pin.
Were any officers' Field Service Cap badges ever fitted with blades rather than loops?

Yes, all types of fittings can be found on officer badges.
