SAS bullion wings - dating?
I would be most grateful if anyone can shed light on probable date of the attached set of wings, which I have just acquired.
As I understand it normal practice was for gold parachute and silver wings to be for ORs and the reverse for officers. As such, this should be an ORs version. Any insights appreciated! |

Those look nice, not what I have ever collected myself, but, just from the photographs, I would have thought late 1950's into the 1960's.

With this in mind, I may actually let go of it in the not too distant future, and would also be interested to get an idea of what would be a fair price for such? |

I don't know, I suppose as much as someone's actually prepared to pay, perhaps auction it and find out?
It is a difficult question to answer really, like dating, unless you have some sort of provenance. |

That is exactly the route I am following. It is now on auction...

Taking into consideration several recent threads and posts in respect of members seeking appraisals and or values of items and the discussions that have developed from such, the question is:
Why is this particular item at auction and not being offered in the first instance to members? Not that I collect such sought after items, and I foresee that in all probability, I'll be told to wind my neck in or it's got bugger all to do with me; but I do believe there are several on here who do seek and cherish such items. If, however, I am incorrect with my assumption that it has not been offered by some other means to members, I'll retract this question, but if it hasn't, I will ask again; why not? Regards Brian |

I certainly appreciate the sentiment of your question. Having indicated nearly a week ago on both this forum and another one that I was likely to be letting go of this particular item in the near future, and seeking to know what a fair price would then be, I would have been open to any member of the forum who wanted to approach me directly with a fair offer. However, I did not receive any approaches. Also, I would like to think that whoever bids on the item at auction would be someone seeking such, and who would appreciate and cherish it. Thank you Brian for taking the time to respond to this thread. |
