Default Finding info on RN Personel

Hi Fellas,

I had an Uncle who I am told was a Royal Navy Commando in WW2. He served in the Atlantic, Pacific and was a landing craft operator at Omaha beach. I would like to find out which ships he served on and what medals he received. I have two of his medals but the rest were misplaced before they got to me. Are there any MOD sources online which may have this info?

Michael

Hi Ard-Ri,

I did a Google on Royal Navy personnel records and came up with the following information from the National Archives: If he was actually a Royal Marine Commando and enlisted after 1925 then you should contact:
DPS(N)2, Building 1/152, Victory View, PP36, HMNB Portsmouth, PO1 3PX.

For RN ratings contact:
Data Protection Cell (Navy)
Victory View
Building 1/152
HM Naval Base
Portsmouth
PO1 3PX

For someone in the RNVR contact:
Service Records 1923-1958
These records are held by Navy Search, TNT Archives Services, Tetron Point, William Nadine Way, Swadlincote, Derbyshire DE11 0PB (telephone: 01283 227913; email: navysearchpgrc@tnt.co.uk

Hope one of these works. David

Thank David, I'll give it a shot.
