Thanks Dudley.
In the 3rd photo, any idea what the arm badge is on the man on the right?
Do you have any idea what the date is for the 4th photo? It looks pre-WWII to me?
Thanks. Cheers,
Alex

Hullo Alex. I am not too sure what the badge is. An assumption is that it is a circular technicians badge. The 4th Photo was taken in the 1920s I believe. The badge was probably the ZALM version. I have taken the liberty of posting a few more SAAF photos for interest.

I'm inclined to think the circular badge on the greatcoat is a Leading Air Mechanic rank badge i.e. for-bladed propeller on a circular field.

The 1920s/early 1930s photos are very interesting!

The very Germanic looking Eagle mounting for the pith helmet in Review Order can clearly be seen. These were later replaced by a flying springbok design.

They appear to mostly be wearing the grey-green uniform that was worn prior to 1934. The light cap band worn by some may be the sky blue band as prescribed for the forage cap in the 1923 regulations.

The Cadets are wearing the white cap band prescribed for cadets and the'plus fours' that were particular to the SAAF uniform at the time.

The photo of the officer in full dress between the cadets and the group of officers is RAF rather than SAAF. The SAAF's full dress, though similar in style, was navy blue rather than blue-grey and they wore SAAF collar badges rather than oak leaves.

Undress Blues for a Staff Officer. Lt-Col and below wore the gilt SAAF collar badge instead of the gorgets and SAAF rather than SAStC buttons.
