Smile 2nd Battalion, The Sherwood Foresters (Derbyshire Regiment)

Hi all,

Like to share a shoulder title I have been chasing for a while. 2nd Battalion, The Sherwood Foresters (Derbyshire Regiment) worn pre-1902 (Westlake 1199). 3 lugs to the rear.

Cheers Dean

Hi Dean

Nice S/T!

I'm not sure if Westlake has the date exactly right. Personally, I think the 2nd Bn wore these titles on KD while in India. They left India in 1898, were then stationed in Aden and Malta and returned to the UK in 1902. It's possible they also wore them 1898-1902, perhaps someone can clarify this?

I believe after they returned to the UK in 1902 they wore cloth S/T's until the brass "Notts & Derby" title was introduced c. 1907.

David

PS.... Dean does say "pre 1902" rather than until 1902, subtle difference!

Thanks David - I will go through my notes tonight on the dates for the 2 over Derby shoulder title.

I think you are spot on. Isn't it amazing how little we know relatively on these regiments and their battalion's badges, cheers Dean.
