Smile Royal Engineers cap badges

Alan, with the number of Royal Engineers cap badges produced during both wars I am surprised that anyone would take the trouble to reproduce them or for that matter to make any money out of faking this very common badge.

Both badges shown seem to have some flaws and I do wonder as to whether they are just poorly made originals.

Presumably you have knowledge as to their origins.

Rob

Rob

Alas they do feature in many known fakers' catalogue. I suspect that the dies were original ones as as you say there is little profit in the expense of new ones.

The badge on the right is one my grandfather owned in the 1940s.

The one on the left could be genuine but the slider looks to be suspect and the braise is very new looking. I would say that it's 20/80% likely to be a restrike.

Toe dipping time West Yorks, left hand badge is copy reason, don't like the eye brow and the RH badge looks "better".
