Default Shoulder-Belt Plates and Buttons by Parkyn

Can someone review Shoulder-Belt Plates and Buttons by Major H.G. Parkyn? Considering buying a copy, but they aren't cheap. Are the illustrations good? How complete are the listings of buttons (I collect primarily buttons, but have a few badges as well), particularly those predating Ripley's Buttons of the British Army, 1855-1970? Could someone provide a screenshot of a page as an example?
With this being an older book, looks like it is old enough to predate copyright laws, does anyone know of a copy on-line anywhere?
Thanks

Default Parkyn's book.

Hello David, If you do not buy the book, there will come a time when you will wish you had. I have found it very helpful when researching the earlier British buttons especially as so many of the buttons shown were worn on this side of the Atlantic during the 1812-14 era. As you will see when tankie sends you some scans, most of the buttons shown are excellent drawings and the information about each is enough to gain you quite a history lesson. Regards, David J.

Thanks to Artynut for your comments, and thanks to 1stTankie for some example pages. I just ordered my own copy. Wife said I will have to put it away for Christmas though - can't complain, this way I know I will get something I actually like (don't tell her I said that...).

Hello Gents,

Having found this old thread I thought I would make members aware that a new edition of this book is available from DP&G Publications:

http://www.military-naval-history.co...es_colours.htm

The book can be found about half way down the page.

Further to this, it may interest some to see the images below taken from the RB Chronicle for 1957.

Regards

Ry
