Default Cavalry regiment hat badges

For the RAAC collectors out there, found this amongst the junk while looking for something else.

Thanks Keith!

Good info - even though its upside down

The 3CAV hat badge from memory came into being and was officially issued in in 1977. A (probably Christies made version) interim badge with lugs was privately purchased and worn from 1975.

The 2CAV badge possibly came into existence earlier. I'm also investigating a claim that a lugged version of the 2CAV badge exists.

Yep, sorry for my poor scanning skills.

Well, 1977 for the 3 Cav badge, that's a fair amount of time from design to issue.

Also found this one for 4 Cav but undated. In early 1978 we did a armour/inf familiarisation with a tp from 4 Cav at Cultana in South Aust. All their guys were wearing brand new embroidered 4 Cav beret badges.

Given that it took 3 Cav that long to get their badge the embroidered 4 Cav badge was probably also filling the gap until their issue badge was available.

Have a great Xmas and New Year gents.

Keith

Can remember seeing or being given a 2 Cav badge at 1RTB in mid 1976. We had a couple of New Zealanders who had served in the Territorials there and had joined the regs here.

So they must have been around and fairly easily obtainable then, one of these blokes had a whole set of 2 Cav cap, collars, etc, apparently pretty confident that was the regt he was going to after Pucka.

Thanks for sharing Keith.

The 4CAV soldiers wore a Pakistan made embroidered cloth badge (officially issued) and then later had a metal badge issued to them.

I believe they also wore the RAAC corps collar badges before getting their collar badges.
