Default Fretting On Modern KOSB Cap Badge

Hi Guys,

Does anyone have a pattern tag (if indeed there was one) of the modern King's Own Scottish Borderers cap badge.

Attached is an image of a 'New Metal' example twice marked 'F&S' to the rear.

My question is - was the fretting carried out by Firmin or was it post factory?

Regards,

Chris

Chris,
Is that the Officer’s badge?

Hi Tim,

Yep; NSN 8455-99-130-3641; pattern No. 30141.

Made of nickle silver with silver plate over.

Marked 'F&S' twice - to upper left Saltire arm and on lower scroll area behind 'FRUSTRA'.

Sealed 1st August 1994 but older pattern card may have been used and updated?

Regards,

Chris

Chris,
Seems very rare and can’t see one in Forum albums. A few examples on dealers lists (mostly sold) in the GB£ 125-250 range.

Possibly this one? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Kings-Own...kAAOSwomhbS1qC

Crikey Tim,

Would not have paid that for it. I think the most I have paid for 'New Metal' is GBP100 for a pair of officer and cadet Royal Jersey Militia both with laser etched unique ID numbers.

However, as you say, some of these modern badges are very rare indeed and now off inventory.

The one on eBay - The obverse die seems the same but the rear die used is different. Also seems thicker material and no maker markings which were dropped 2012 but the badge was off inventory the same year.

Regards,

Chris
