Silver prize shooting spoon by James Fenton with Birmingham 1898 hallmark.
Engraved to the bowl "L COY" 2VBRH BW 1898. The stem in the form of a rifle flanked with thistles and two shields engraved with the initials JS and a Black Watch badge. The stock of the rifle even has a butt plate with oiler compartment engraved on it too small for me to photograph. |

90mm x 4.7oz unmarked silver plaid brooch now toned black. St. Andrew is back filled with lead circa 1890s. Broken fitting to the reverse replaced with a heavy duty kilt pin. Salty example untouched for years to clean or not?

As you can see I have cleaned the front enough to show it is solid silver.

I think it is best to do as you have done with the brooch, or any badge, in my opinion. It removes heavy tarnish and corrosion, leaving it now to be stored in a good environment. The "leave it alone" faction can take solace in that it will certainly tone again, hopefully minus any corrosion.
