Default Africa Star

Good afternoon,

I have seen an Africa Star with owner's name and number engraved. I think it could be South African, as the name is Botha. Is it a common practice, and is it possible to find that on other Stars ?

South African Stars were named, also Indian I think.
British ones weren't named although some are privately engraved.
After WWII "Boots The Chemist" offered such a service in Britain.

Thank you for these precisions. The number is CS 276565 P. BOTHA. Is it possible to find something about this South-African soldier ?

I would imagine that it will be possible to find more information from his service records but that's not something I've done, other forum members may help out with that.

The number and prefix indicate that P. Botha was a member of the Cape Corps. If he had the Africa Star, he ought to have had the 1939-45 Star, the War Medal and the Africa Service Medal too (and perhaps the Italy Star as well).

The WWII service records are held at the defence force archives in Pretoria. There are some researchers who specialise in this field - details in this thread : https://www.britishbadgeforum.com/fo...ad.php?t=54586.
