University College Reading - swagger stick
Hi All
I have just got this swagger stick for University College Reading. It has a Gaunt finnial. I was just about to post the photos when I saw a name scratched into it. Very small. Took me a while to work it out but is is W.J. Whittington. Low and behold I find him on the Reading Roll of Honour. What an exciting find. I work out the stick has to be from between 1910 and 1912 when he took a general service commission. Did they have a specific cap badge for the UOTC ? Not sure what the uniform is in his photo. Unfortunately killed in the 15th May advance across no mans land at the battle of Festubert. What do you think? Richard. |

One of the scarcer Senior Division badges but not as rare of the pre 1922 Irish ones.
