RN Trade and Cloth Titles
Hi Friends
I'm out of my depths on RN Trade badges and titles and this is not my area, however my aim was to get a WWII Royal Navy cloth title for a representation of a WWII RN Commando Combined operations Petty Officer display. After doing research and receiving the badges I assume they are WWII era , yes one should not assume! I do have some questions: Are they all WWII era? Director Layer RN ,does not have an "L" or could it be a Gun Layer 2C? Sea Cadet Corps would this be WWII (1941)with a name changes from Navy League SCC. Merchant Navy title WWII? Coast Guard WWII or post WWII? All opinions welcomed. cheers Phill |

Your printed Coastguard is indeed wartime as it was issued when the Coastguards adopted khaki battle dress. Post war embroidered versions have dark yellow lettering.
The photo shows it worn. Jon |

The Merchant Navy title was worn at the Gravesend National Sea Training School on battledress until at least the mid 1970's but whether it was worn there during WW2 I do not know. Regards Tony |

Thanks Tony
My thoughts are that these were made during WWII and worn up to the Queens crown and the titles could of still been in use for quite some time after. Merchant Navy title (not this one) could be one that has seen service up to 70's? The SCC could come down to the Serif type font used during WWII? Coast Guard and RN Titles WWII era. Wireless Telegraphist,Stoker,Petty Officer and Ordinary Steward are melton wool, the rest are felt , the SCC is the thickest of the felt badges. Please if I am incorrect in my observations please feel free to comment. cheers Phill |
