Default NEW BOOK STAFF SERGEANTS PICTORIAL HISTORY

The Staff Sergeants of British Line Infantry Regular Battalions 1848 to 1919
A pictorial Guide

I researched and wrote this 90 page book as a distraction during lockdown. It was offered to the Military Historical Society as the annual Special, but for a variety of good reasons we mutually abandoned the idea.
It is now being professionally printed as a private publication, retailed by me, and will be available well before Christmas. The first 100 copies will be sold for a special “cost plus relevant postage plus a token £1” to cover my expenses, and expected to be significantly less than £15. Thereafter the price will rise.
Many experts in their fields contributed, and I was aided by my collection of General Orders, Army Orders, Sovereigns’ Regulations, Pay Warrants and Clothing Regulations, so that most sources for the contents can be pursued at leisure by the reader.
“Why 1848?” I was asked. In fact the book begins in 1800 but firm ground with collaterals emerges in 1848. And why 1919? Simply that my interest and library do not extend reliably beyond the Great War. The period 1900 to 1919 occupies one third of the book, and service in India is well covered.
• There are 14 Tables in sequence centred on 1848, 1865, 1877, 1882, 1890, 1898, 1900, India, 1907, 1910, 1913, 1914, 1915 and late 1918.
• Tables are arranged in rank seniority order and deal with staff roles, uniforms, badges, weapons, and pay. They also trace the introduction and cancellation of appointments.
• The book is A4, in full colour on heavy quality paper and wire bound (to make the 15 double-page Tables with footnotes easy to read flat without page-turning).
• There are 221 photographs, many not published before, and in colour wherever possible.
If you are interested please PM me, including your email address, for an illustrated prospectus. I will reserve a copy for you on receipt of a firm order. Payment, price to be advised, by UK cheque or Paypal Friends.

Pleased [relieved] to inform that the book is selling like hot cakes. Still some of the first tranche at "cost plus £1" remaining. This is a special offer to GWF and BBF fellow anoraks ............... thereafter Thatcher economics will return!

I have cleared the backlog of those who have supplied an email address for the Prospectus, so, if you want to receive it and it has not turned up, it infers that I don't have your email address.

Update: I have had some suggestions that a BACS money transfer to my account would suit some buyers, so will add it as a third payment option. Confident that UK total cost to buyers will be inside £15.

Grateful to Mods to allow this little project run.

No need for any gratitude as it is so refreshing to see such a piece of research and dedicated work coming to fruition.
