Default Badge or Sweetheart pin?

Hi All,

A friend of mine recently sent me this 'badge' of 6th Royal Melbourne Regiment for me to put in my Empire to Commonwealth Project - but I don't know whether this is a cap badge or a sweetheart pin?

Could some one let me know, please? - and thanks for reading this.

Hi Mike,

I'm afraid I just don't know! It was a picture a friend found for me - but we have no idea of the back of it nor the size of it, only this one picture.

Hi Wright,

No idea I'm afraid. It's all from this photograph that we have any evidence that it exists at all - and he can't precisely remember where he got it from either!

If thats the edge of a pin I can just make out in the photograph then its probably a sweetheart brooch.

Hi David,

Thanks for spotting that - I was hoping ye were going to say that! I thought it could be a brooch purely because it looks so chunky! (There, now you know the limit of MY technical skills! )

I'm presuming that there is/was a 6th Royal Melbourne Regiment!

hi anthony
it looks to be the officers enamel cap badge (37mm) of the royal melbourne rgt.
there was a hat badge in brass for ORs and gilt/enamel for officers at 55mm heigh and collars in brass and gilt/enamel for officers at 30mm.
this badge is circa 1930-53 period.
nice badge

Hi BC,

Oh my .... so it could be a brooch (from above) or a cap badge. I love a mystery!

I just wish I had some measurements or a photo of the back to show ye all.

Hi Anthony
These wernt made as sweethearts as such so even if it’s broached, it’s still an officers cap badge and worth grabbing. Not very common
