Default 2 different Royal Scots help please

Hi all
Just picked these up today and would like some information on them.
They are distinctly different. Different size, fittings and construction.
Could anyone help date them and tell me why the differences. I do have a ww1 economy version, however the badge on the left is 2 piece while i think the one on the right would be a helmet plate centre?
the badge on the left also seems to have a number stamped inside the hollow, (251C) any ideas?
Cheers
BC

Hi BC
The first badge is shown in Bloomer's book and is an O/R's glengarry badge, 1872 - 1890, very nice. The number in it looks like 2510 to me and the '0' just hasn't been properly stamped I think. Maybe the wearer's force number?
Cheers,
Alex

Hi BC
As Alex says, the first one is c.1872-90 and is quite rare. The second could date from anytime after 1890, and is probably, as you say, a HPC. Regards Jeff

hi guys
thanks for the replies.
i am really pleased with them both. was it common to stamp a rgt number on the back of badges like this one. its not just a random stamping either as it looks very uniform.
i wonder if there is a way to trace the number to the owner.
given that you say it is quite rare, what do you think its worth?

Hi bc
At a rough guess, I would say about £100

Thanks Jeff
Paid a lot less than that.

I posted this badge some time ago and it was identified as an 1872/1890 version of The Royal Scots.

Since this thread features such a badge and the reverse of my badge is a little different I have pictured it again for comparison or comment.
