I would take issue with that. It is a long time since I wore one (1985-6) and I've no idea where mine went when I got my cap comforter but ours were definitely issued with the tombstone already attached and I dont remember seeing any without either in clothing stores or the tailors.

The beret flash looks sewn on later but when I was in in the late seventies they came pre sewn.

Another thought. I have had red flashes turn up when acquiring RM items. Why these would be separate, who knows unless they were to be attached to headgear after issue?? I don’t know and it’s only speculation on my part.

Yes, actually berets have the tombstone sewn..but I think JB is talking about wartime berets...WWII
