2nd Battalion Madras Regiment
I believe this is the correct forum to post this question.
Two auctions just ended on eBay containing photos of officers from the 2nd Battalion Madras Regiment 1944-1945. Attached find one of the photos and it shows an officer wearing the Madras regimental badge with flash on what I presume is a maroon beret. What color is the flash behind the badge? |

The 2nd Parachute Battalion The Madras Regiment was a short lived member of the 2nd Indian Airborne Division. On conversion to the Para role in mid 1946 it moved to Karachi to join the Division. On Partition in 1947 it became part of the Indian Army and moved to Gurgaon in Haryana State and was engaged in internal defence duties. Wikipedia states that the 2nd Bn retained the parachute role until 1950.
The Madras Regiment today wears a scarlet backing to the cap badge on the beret so it is possible that this was also the case in 1946/7. Andy |

In the photo, both the beret and the Pegasus patch were tinted with the same maroon colour. Of course this is tinting, but would be consistent with status as Airborne unit.
