I have but it was on a repro badge. I saw a whole load of fakes at Charing cross market a few years ago and they had a variety of makers names on. All were bogus.

Gladman and Norman
Yes, As a collector of British Legion/Royal British Legion badges, I have a couple of 9ct Gold hallmarked badges from Gladman and Norman but I have not seen this name on any other badge.
Regards Jerry.

Hello Mike,
The photo you posted of the Royal Ordnance Corps badge with the Gladman & Norman back mark...is it genuine or bogus? Thanks! Todd |

Mike beat me to it, but RAOC badge shown is 100% OK IMO, it is the only Genuine badge upon which I have found this makers mark. As alan says it is common on repros! Both of the badges shown below are IMO genuine "Buttons" one there for comparison!

I've got the G&N mark on my 15/19th Hussars. It's the three line stamp identical to the RAOC's illustrated.

The fakes are larger font and on two lines. IMO the Genuine mark, as mentioned by Keith, is much smaller, finer and on three lines!!
Here's a fake example! (RAEC QC) Andy |

I have a few Gladman & Norman RAOC Bi-Metal Badges as illustrated which I am happy with, they are a two-piece construction with the nickle shield being brazed over a pressed shield on the badge itself, while Buttons Ltd and Gaunt examples have a plain shield on the main body.

Thanks very much guys. I found a Royal Ordnance Corps badge for sale with the Gladman & Norman makers mark that is pretty much identical to the one in the photo posted by Mike.
I'm concentrating on collecting World War II British badges. Do the WWII badges typically have makers marks or not ? Thanks once again! Todd |

RAOC Badge as illustrated is not WWII it is the post war 1949 Pattern Badge.
Top Row 1918-1947 (Wide Title) Pattern & 1947-1949 (Wide Tonanti) Pattern Bottom Row 1949-1952 (KC Slim Tonanti) Pattern & 1952-1993 (QC Slim Tonanti) Pattern There is of course a wide overlap of dates worn, but never earlier than it introduction date! |

Thank you Mike 2817...quite a difference between the pre/WWII era badge and the post war badges! The one that I saw for sale is definitely post war pattern. I'll steer clear of it as I am looking for WWII era badges. Again, thanks very much for the clarification.

I have come across them in Min of Supply documents from the 2nd WW. I have a King's Regt badge (1926 pattern) with their name on but it is quite clearly of recent manufacture. I may have found the explanation to this in the following extract from their website:
Gladman and Norman Ltd were a major producer of metal cap badges for the British Army prior to the switch to aluminium. Today the Company still produce many of these badges, in many instances using the riginal dies, under license from the Ministry of Defence. |
