Default Uploading Images

Since the recent maintenance work, I am unable to upload photographs into my albums! I've tried uploading from a file on my computer and also directly from SD Card, however system does not want to play ball, anyone else suffering from same problem? Is there any specific format now?

Andy

Hi Andy,

All I can think of is that we have a lower image size ability on the new server. Can you upload a smaller file size image to see if you can get it to go - one I uploaded earlier was 776k which is big but maybe yours are bigger?

(that 776k was reduced to 66k by the software)

Mike

Mike,
yes problem is uploading into the albums or when trying to attach to posts! My files are 2.17MB have you changed the file size during the switch, as my photos were the same size before!

Hi Andy, that's great - on the old server the limit must have been above 2.17mb,

and as I got a 1.5mb to upload I would bet we now (on the new server) have a default of 2mb

this is a dedicated server so I have control over these settings,... but we also now have a monthly bandwith limit, which counts uploads and downloads.....if you can get away ok by reducing the file size a little on your machine first that would be great (and save me having to do anything technical )

Mike

PS the image crunching is done by a program on the server called "gd" not part of the forum software as you may suspect.

Mike,
I've reduced the image size (MB) on my camera and have managed to upload to both my Albums and responses to posts, there is no loss of quality or resolution and in fact my uploads now upload much faster so as well as saving me time it should reduce the impact on the sites limits too!!

All the best - Andy

Hi Andy, super -just out of interest I am led to believe if the image is reduced close to the size the forum likes, 600 pixels on the longest side, and the file size is reduced, say to about 100k -150k, then the picture does not get too much of a battering from the "gd" image manipulator, and the end result is a sharper clearer image.
I've not done any experiments to see it that is true though, just something I read.
(the smaller files will also upload in a jiffy as well)

Mike.

Mike,
I've gone down to 1600 x 1200, which seems to be the lowest setting on my camera without going into the set up menu! This seems to work fine and appears to make the album photos slightly larger but clearer (check out my Household Cav and Gren Gds), I think so anyway but that might mean my eyes need adjusting too?

Andy
