Default Badges recovered from the ground

I've always rather liked dug up badges, I feel they have a story to tell.

Here is a nice Duke of Cornwall Light Infantry cap badge I bought on Saturday at Blue Anchor car boot in Somerset, the seller told me his friend had found it somewhere in Devon.

Always interesting to see dug up badges, especially if their find spot is known, thanks for showing it.

I have this pair of RWF badges which I do not know where they were found which seems a shame.

Recording the findspot - and even recording such on eg PAS - should be paramount !

I've been known to unearth a few badges from the ground in my time and I agree, theres something about the story they have to tell.

Mine can be definitively attributed to WW1 soldiers.

Thanks Julian. I make sure the local museum are made aware of what we find and where (they've even put a display on in the museum relating to the camp which included quite a lot of our finds).

In addition, every time we find a badge or title to a new/different regiment, we inform the local history society who keep a record of which regiments had soldiers based at the camp.

I agree with KLR it is worth letting PAS what has been found as it helps build up a national database of what's been found and where (as well as in turn providing a resource that helps others to identify what they have found)

For those that are interested

https://finds.org.uk/

A very useful resource for anyone (doesn't have to be just metal detectorists) who finds anything old!

Default 1st Volunteer Warwickshire Shoulder Title

This was found in an orchard in Herstmonceux East Sussex more than 30 years ago, quite a scarce title I suspect.
