Default Slider / Loop mountings question

This is the perfect place for me to ask this - Is there a way to tell what badge should have a slider or a pair of loops for mounting ? I collect cap badges that would fall into the post WW2 era and see ( in what is said to be original ) one of the same badge be one way and another the other way. Am I seeing original and fake or older and newer?

There are no universal rules for loops versus sliders. Most post 1906 badges were slidered but there are a lot of exceptions.
