Default piper's plaid brooch

There is a plaid brooch on page two which is wrongly listed as the Machine Gun Corps. There were only two of these ever made and they were worn by the Pipe Sgt of the First Royal Tank Regiment (RTR was born out of the MGC). The RTR feather bonnet badge and Glengarry badges are correct. Incidentally, as far as I know I was the only person to wear this plaid brooch as the practice was discontinued, ideed i still have mine. The RTR pipes and drums is still alive and have a newer version of both plaid brooch and cap badge.

as far as I am aware, nobody has properly covered the subject of pipe-majors' badges of appointment other than the straightforward set of pipes above the four chevrons. There were many regimental and corps versions.
That would be a meaty and worthwhile addition.

Please!

[Denis Edwards and I nibbled at the problem and you would be welcome to our findings of course.]

Default Piper's Plaid Brooch

This plaid brooch is part of a group of medals and badges to a piper of the Lowland Divisional T & S Column A.S.C.
If of interest for your project, I can attempt to get an improved image.

Some fantastic badges, thanks to all those members who have contributed.......
Excellent Tony.
If you don't mind my asking, I'm not clear on what the purpose of the project is just by looking at the pages and reading this thread. I'm seeing a wide array of badges and not understanding the immediate organizational layout of the presentation. Is there a specific focus to the collection?

The military pipe band I played in had such a diversity of badges, and such a willingness to invent dress regulations, that if they are any example, I'd have to believe that creating a definitive list of piper's badges would be a difficult task.

I have always thought the purpose was just to show examples of badges worn by ( military ) Pipers.

Hi Peter;
Thanks for the reply. Sorry for the confusion - I see the page is listed under projects and thought I might be missing something more definitive by way of a mandate. If there are no restrictions I have a number of badges in my own collection I could share, as our dress regulations changed many times, and we wore a wide variety of cantles, brooches, sword belts, full dress buckles, etc.

Michael,

I am sure many members would be pleased to see them, I only collect to the Kings Regiment including The Liverpool Scottish but I am always interested in seeing interesting items to any unit.

Regards

Peter
