Coloured Field Service Caps
Here is a link to an excellent Canadian website that shows exactly what each Regt wore for a FSC.
http://www.servicepub.com/mdfscaps.htm Does anyone know of a British equivalent? |

Will do it over the weekend. I assume you want Royal Armoured Corps and Yeomanry as well as Cavalry? I wonder if what they term Cavalry were those still riding horses in 1941? Do you also want the Yeomanry "converted to other arms"?

Yes please, The Cavalry in the true sense of the word.... ie all the Regiments that were around as mounted Regiments before Mechanisation. The Yeomanry too please..... Although I'm not too worried about the Inf Reg's that found themselves on tanks like WG etc....
I specifically want to identify an all red FSC with yellow piping on the crown only. I think it's a Hussar variant.... Looking forward to your mail Thanks Howard |

Will do it over this long weekend. Meanwhile, not very good news for you. According to this booklet at least six Hussar regiments wore an all red FSC with yellow piping. Are the buttons GS?

Coloured FS caps
Hi,
Beware of the accuracy of this booklet- it is not 100% correct, but the best currently available. Regards, Badjez. |

To take the thread a bit further, the MHS Special Number for 2002 covers Infantry Coloured Field Service Caps, and that for 2006 covers The Mess Dress of the Yeomanry Cavalry 1880 - 1914.

Could you please look up the description for the Pioneer Corps side cap? According to Brian L. Davis it is supposed to have white silver crown and peak piping while mine (sold as PC) has no piping.

Luc, if it can help, here are pictures of a Pioneer Corps one with piping for sale at WD militaria. Note the presence or absence of piping is often the owner's choice. For instance, among the RASC, different versions have already been seen, sometimes you could even find changes in the color used for the top of the cap.

Excellent, its a proper PC side cap after all. It seems mine is identical to his unidentified cap.

I had always presumed that the difference between silver piping and plain was that the latter was a private purchse by an 'other rank'.
Can anyone prove/disprove this theory with other caps they own? Stephen. |

Do you specifically mean silver piping or piping in general? Here is an example of a sapper; you can see the yellow crown piping.
