Just curious Simon but how did you become an expert on false nails?

''For permanently mounting and framing badges, I cut off the lugs and sliders and crazy glue the badges to plywood.''

Whats wrong with that?

I then stick felt over the board and put it back into the frame without the glass. I then pierce the felt so the badges can slot nicley into place.

I cut the oblong slots so that slidered badges can be placed in without putting any strain on the badge or slider..... I then slide cut up pieces of old credit or debit cards behind the slider to keep it in place. For looped badges I use cotton buds with an end cut off to slide through the loops to keep that in place with a cardboard packer to keep the badge flush to the felt.

This system allows you to remove the badges for occasional cleaning without any problems
Are there recommended methods for tackling the cloth/felt backing... how best to ensure it is secure?

Peter,
I use a 'good' double sided tape - in 'good', I mean one that dressmakers etc use for mending etc. And no, I don't make dresses but do know how to darn socks.

Thanks, David.

Would you apply the tape to the edges only, or over a greater area? I suppose the size of the particular board may influence this aspect.

With thanks,

Peter.

Peter,
I put it between the velvet and the backing - I use either card or those soft plastic mounting boards (used for postage stamps and quite sturdy) or even 'Foam Mounting Board') - which is available in all sorts of sizes.
The tape completely stops the velvet sagging and (depending on the colour) highlights badges quite nicely.
