Looking at my album, and most of the photography is pretty poor quality, and put to shame by some of the new stuff posted on it. Will definitely have to re do a few of them, however, it got this thing going.

Peter,

I love your top twenty list. It shows an appreciation for badges.

Have just uploaded my top 20.

It brought a lot of memories back thinking about each individual badge and how they came into my possession and what each one means to me.

So thanks for motivating me to do that John, it was good to go through my trays of badges!

Ivan

I've edited my album today. Same badges, but just a few better quality photos, more deserving of a top 20 selection!

I'm blown away today to see so many fantastic top 20 albums from the forum. I'm loving seeing the badges no matter how modest or rare and expensive, but I'm really enjoying the stories that go along with them.
Apologies to Dave for almost causing a nervous breakdown - the headache will probably clear in a day or two mate!
Some fantastic contributions, and I'm sure there will be some more to follow. Maybe even a few surprises?
Thanks to everyone so far.

John

Default My top 20 - NO1

Here's the absolute N0 1 in my top 20,and the treasure of my entire militaria collection.

4 WW1 era badges of a very brave officer of the 3rd Dragoon Guards, and later the Royal Flying Corps. His name was Spencer Bertram Horn.
He served in the same RFC squadron as VC winners Billy Bishop and Mick Mannock, and was attributed in downing 13 enemy aircraft, officially making him an Ace.He later attained the rank of Lt Col in the 3rd Carabiniers (3 DG),,and was responsible for taking the surrender of thousands of German troops in Norway around Tromso in 1945.
The badges came from his estate, via his housekeeper, who passed them on to her son who lives, near Aberdare.
They came with several other personal items of ephemera including family photos,an oil painting and a charcoal portait of the aforementioned officer when he was a Lt Col.
Cheers.
Alan
