[QUOTE=Luc;105290]Thanks for your help. I have found the website, and there are lots of pictures that show a slidered badge on a square backing cloth:
Dorsetshire regt, page Brits 1,
Durham Light Infantry, page Brits 2,
ACC, also page Brits 2,
Middlesex regt, page Brits 3,
RAMC, page brits 7,
RA (flaming grenade badge), page Brits 8,
REME, page Brits 9,
RE, page Brits 11.
I assume DLI would have a bottle green backing cloth and ACC mouse grey. How about the others?

According to the divisional history, all units of 43rd Div were told to wear distinguishing coloured backings on their caps. Attached pics of Som LI and Hampshire Regt

Som LI & DCLI, dark green
Wiltshire Regt, maroon
Dorset Regt, green
Worcestershire Regt, green
Hampshire Regt, yellow
Middlesex, yellow/maroon diamond (possibly a square also)
Recce, green square

I assume that all corps wore corps colours, some I have seen (RE & RAMC). RA wore the usual diamond except 59 A/Tk Regt who wore a red/blue square

Lee, how would you describe this shade of green? I have a spare bit of felt which is lighter than my cloth RUR titles but darker than my reconnaissance corps titles, would this be ok?

Luc
I assumed that the colours should be the same as on the coloured FS cap but the Som LI one in the pic attached is a bit lighter, similarly the Dorset one is a bit darker than it should be so maybe they just used the nearest they could find. All the attached(except Middx) came with other 43rd Div items.

Nice collection Old Smelly, do you have any idea from when on these backings were worn with the 43rd Div?
What did the RAMC wear?

Rgds,

Not sure exactly when they were introduced but they seem to be worn from late '43 onwards(when the GS cap was introduced), it is mentioned in one of the histories but I didn't mark the page and not quite up to reading it all again(yet)
There is a pic on the website that Luc tagged above, http://www2.nijmegen.nl/wonen/oudste...de_lens/fotos_
that shows RAMC in 43rd wearing a square in corps colours maroon/dk blue/yellow

Twice on page 7.

I've browsed various suppliers to reenactors, but found no backings. I'm sure that these are sold somewhere?

Thanks both. Of the two, what makes KN75265 43rd Div? And what might KN75139 be wearing between his AOS strip and his lance corporal insignia?
