Default You never know !!!!!!

In this mornings post was a Kings Liverpools sweethearts brooch I won on our favourite on line auction site.

Based on the photo of the lot I was expecting a base metal badge. I was most surprised when I opened the packet at both the weight of the badge and its buttery gold colour.

My surprise was even greater when I turned the badge over and saw makers and 9 carat marks. Not bad for around £10.

P.B.

P.S. I thought the badge looked familiar it is very similar in design to the center of the Liverpool Scottish ( 10th KLR ) glengarry badge.

Well done! I had the same happy experience 20 years ago with what I supposed by a 6th Australian Light Horse collar badge.

Well done! I'd weigh it in if I were you.

Thanks Jack,

I will keep it in my collection for a while before I do that. It does make you wonder what choice silver and gold military badges have ended up in the pot over the years.

Peter

You are so right Peter, and alas not only badges. I am interested in weapons used in the 19th century Matabele War and the Rebellion, and I often wonder just what was among the obsolete weapons, now of historical interest, which went into reinforcing the concrete during the making of Kariba Dam wall in the 1950's.

Regards,

John
