.surely us police have their own medals for long service etc so dont need to go to the army surlpus,
a disgrace to those that won the medals outright for serving their country ,in my view

I doubt that you realize that this deals with one of the most divisive trials in the US. This was a second degree murder trial. Given the weakness of the prosecution's case I'm glad the prosecution didn't pick up on the officer's ribbons to challenge her testimony. In certain quarters this could still become an issue. It is possible the officer in question earned the 3 medals I have been able to ID. They were awarded post Second World War. I have no idea what the others are or what the rules are for wearing military decorations on a police uniform and/or mixing civilian with military. Google Zimmerman trial to get an idea of the frenzy. I wonder what this police department was thinking?

I've got the WWII Occupation medal, and I was born in 1959. Because the medal's life was extended as the Berlin occupation medal until the end of the cold war.
