What the heck was a British Member of Parliament doing in the Russian Army in 1917!!

He must be British as he has the QV Diamond Jubilee Medal and the ED 7th Coronation Medal, typical of a high ranking civvy.

I believe that he was in Russia with the Red Cross. Take a close look at his shoulder straps.

Thats a Russian uniform, so whatever he was in was a Russian unit. I would not necessarily automatically associate the cross device on his shoulder strap with that of a 'Red Cross' unit, its a fairly common device in pre-1917 Russian Badges and Medals.

Certainly nothing to do with the BRCS.

Well, if Ian Malcolm is wearing a Russian uniform he must have picked it up whilst serving with the Red Cross in Russia:

"He was a British Red Cross Officer during the First World War in France, Switzerland, Russia and the U.S.."

Russian pattern officers's tunic is okay for wear in country I guess, but the orange-black cockade on the cap band is way too close to saying "I am in the service of Imperial Russia."
