Not seen one with a flat scroll before for the Welsh.

Jerry,
it is a lapel badge so just a representation of the Regimental device! Andy |

Hi Jerry,
could it be a veterans (old comrades) lapel badge and not a sweetheart piece ? Cheers,Martin. |

Hi Martin,
that is what I think it is, it is just the flat base to the scroll is not something I have seen, all the others have the curved scroll, as on the two others I posted and the cap badges. I see no problems with it, just that it is different. Thanks for chipping in mate.

The horseshoe fittng is for a man's jacket's lapel buttonhole rather than pinning to a lady's frock so it's a mufti or OCA badge (unless Dai's sweetheart was a big burly bloke caled Dave )

Thanks Alan.
Any thoughts on why the scroll is flat instead of the usually seen curved version on badges for the Welsh?

Hi Jerry.
I can't answer the question but can add that I have seen several various badges of this type; with the horseshoe style attachment and like Alan, I have always thought them to be Old Comrades items. The only one I have kept, (I think) is for the Middlesex Regiment and it has the same style scroll as yours, however, it doesn't have the same attachment, but has what can only be described as being similar to an OSD blade, attached vertically. I seem to remember that the others seen all had the same flat type scroll. I suspect an answer could be that it was ease of production. Regards Brian |

I would agree that is a stylised design to ease production and keep costs down.

Thanks Brian and Alan. I was curious and glad to have that answered.

I might as well ask here rather than start anew thread, but why is one of the sweethearts so much bigger than the other two badges and the other sweethearts I own. It is made in a similar manner to a cap badge with a separate lower scroll and is the same size as a cap badge.
Any thoughts or information would be appreciated, though I assume it is just a big sweetheart.
