Royal Marines Cap badge
The Royal Marines cap badge in gilt. The same pattern was used for the gilding metal version, and later the badges with the St. Edward's Crown.

Am I right in thinking that the gilt one was worn by NCOs?

Hi Alan,
Your right 54Bty has put up a very nice sealed pattern SNCO's badge in gilt, a Royal Marines SNCO would wear also collars and buttons in gilt. This was followed on with the St Edwards Crown (Queens) when badges of SNCO's were also worn in gilt, along with collars, and buttons until the introduction of anodised badges, collars and buttons in about 1963-64.
