Can anyone identify the uniforms
Newspaper boys and others outside The Olympia Theatre, Dame Street Dublin on 11 July 1921, the day the truce came into effect.
The two soldiers in the picture are wearing medal ribbons on their tunics indicating that they fought in WWI but the uniforms seem different from that of the British Army. Could they be Black & Tans? Last edited by jembo; 05-08-14 at 07:15 PM. |

An interesting photo, thanks for sharing.
I doubt if they are Tans as the badge they are wearing is not the RIC badge. Also I can not imagine Black & Tans strolling round Dublin unarmed at that time. I can not think who they might be unless they were RAF. Eddie |

I think they are Auxilliaries, a unit similarly dressed to the Black and Tans, but made up entirely of ex-officers.
