Default Unidentified British Para Wing

Just picked up the attached green on Rifle Green wing.

It was sold as Rifles, presumably for wear on shirt or pullover, but I'm not aware this pattern has ever been authorised or worn. Is it a prototype, fantasy item or genuine but not related to The Rifles?

Does anyone have any additional information please?

Many thanks,
Graham

Looks like Royal Irish in piper green on black. There are pictures on line of Colonel Tim Collins wearing these type of wings when commanding 1 R IRISH.

Hello Tim,

Many thanks for responding.

The wing in question is definitely on a Rifle Green rather than Black ground. (Please see second image on my original post for comparisons - the top wing is the mystery item, the second wing down is the Royal Irish one you mention and the bottom one Rifle Regiments including 6 and 10 RGR) It may of course be a manufacturing error which is an avenue I'm currently exploring. It looks to be of fairly recent manufacture.

Graham,
Apologies, should have gone to Specsavers and stop viewing on a small screen in black and white!
I would suspect a manfacturing error and definitely not related to the Rifles. Did it come in packaging showing an NSN?

Not unkown for "odd" colour combinations to be manufactured!

Tim,

Sadly not.

Just been informed that someone with a Rifles background believes they're Gurkha

With that colour combination they may be worn by parachute trained personnel in the National Elf Service of course.

Nice collection of wings. These are passed over by a lot of collectors as they are fairly common but there is a bit more to them if one delves below the surface. I think I may have a few other variants.
