Can you see the backs of these postcards? Are they the "Wellington" series by Gale and Polden?

Great photos. I wonder why the recruit bending down has his face obliterated in the second one ?

Also it it likely to be Woolwich Barracks?

The Mounted L/Corporal is especially good I think.... its a rare thing to see the Broderick Cap in use. Being used during the Boer War is possibly even more rare. The L/Corporals horse is in very good condition so that tells me that the horse has been off "the Ship" for at least four months and back into good health after a long voyage. It could be that its a South African bred horse and not transported..... whatever the case..... its in good health

Possibly it is just blurred as he moved as the photo was being taken.

Probably. I think he's a jinx who ruins photos!

Is it Woolwich though and if so any idea which barracks?

Also the bloke on the horse is a dead ringer for Anthony Quayle.
