Queens Own Royal West Kent Regiment?
This picture has just come up on eBay, it interests me because of the Cap badge on the Kepi (not normally interested in Infantry stuff).
I have been looking at West Kent Yeomanry badges and something thats always bothered me is the "leg" placement of the horse on the INVICTA scroll. If you look at the Kepi badge below, its is a single scrolled badge with the left lower leg position on the forward left top edge of the INVICTA scroll. Queens Own Royal West Kent Regiment IMO:- West Kent Yeomanry c1914 QOR West Kent Regiment (Kepi Badge) albeit that the badge below is a Repro

Griff,
your badge is not a RWK.. It's a repro West Kent Yeo? Here is a repro RWK Regt - The Dad's Army Badge! Andy |

Griff,
although it may have lost it's lower scrolls, I doubt that to be the case as the beast itself although distorted appears to be a lot more chubby and I agree it's like the Yeo badge. Not my area but I think the Volunteer Force may have worn a similar badge? Andy |

He looks more of a rifle volunteer than yeomanry to me.

he appears to be wearing an 1887 Patterm Martini Henry sword bayonet.

OK.....
He is definatley not a Yeoman. He is definatley Infantry..... but who? Now.... KK1867 = The Kent Cyclist btn (1908 to 1920) almost Identicle Badge to the West Kent Yeomanry Badge I have shown above (left Hoof on the "N" right hoof between the "TA" of "INVICTA", and its head more flung back). KK1459 = West Kent Yeomanry (left Hoof on the "N" right hoof on the "T" of "INVICTA").... also an OSD Collar Shown The badge below is neither of the above (although its a copy) its something else..... and to me it looks like the badge on the Kepi in the photo. However look at the hoof placement and then compare it to the badge below. Andy is probably right when he says its a "clipped" lower scroll.... of the badge below: (left Hoof on the "I" right hoof on the "C" of "INVICTA")

QOR West Kent Regiment Officers collar? And whats this???? Looks like a "clipped" lower scroll QOR West Kent Regiment OSD missing the other tang? The Yeomanry does not have Old English Script.

The RWK Regiment collar badge was the Royal Crest. I can only presume that the OSD with blades is yeomanry or cyclist.
The RWK officer's helmet plate center had the Invicta in Roman letters, so perhaps the type of script is not always consistant? CB |

The late Tim Ashley,a well known Kings Liverpool collector had an unusual badge in his collection. The Kent horse ,rather than the usual depiction of the White Horse of Hanover, on a single scroll KINGS.
I have never found out if it is indeed a Liverpool item or if so its use. All I have is a rather poor photocopy ( see attachment ) and I dont know what fittings the badge has. P.B.

Members of the 'Kent (Marine) Cadet Force' (not MoD) wear a similar if not the same badge.
