Canada has a '4th' - Princess Louise 4th Dragoon Guards - but all the titles I can find for the WWII period, which I assume these are from, show the full title, even if it is abreviated. So, always, 'P.L. 4th...' or some variation of that. Also, none appear to use a red backing, so I am guessing that this is from the 4th (Royal Irish) Dragoon Guards, British Armoured Corps.

For what it's worth.

The first badge -issue 280 of The Formation Sign (arrived this morning) makes tentative ID as 162 OCTU (HAC).

It's Badges on Battle Dress mystery badge M47.

The title is Indian make; I have several for Indian regiments that are identical.
They are thought to be of early post independence for some unknown use.
The problem is that there was no 4th DG in the Indian army!

the 4th Dragoon Guards is NOT a Canadian title. The abbreviation for the 4th Princess Louise Dragoon Guards is 4 PLDG. The Plugs used the colours of their full dress uniforms for their titles, white on royal blue.

Regarding the 4th DG title, perhaps these were commemorative items done up some shortly after the war by the Indian/Pakistan armies, as most seem to have the pre 1922 titles of Indian Army regiments and perhaps this was included for some unknown reason.

I believe these were intended as HAC TRFs but were not approved?

Hi guys,

Thanks for the responses. It is interesting to read from your comments that this may have been worn by 162 OCTU (HAC), early WW2, and has recently been resurrected as a TRF for the HAC, albeit not authorised.

Anybody have any ideas on the 4th Dragoons?

Thanks
Andy

The Indian market also contains a number of complete fantasy pieces, which are sold to tourists looking for 'something different', I suspect.

Tim,

As Bob stated, my daughter was issued them. They didn't wear them for very long before they wore the Guards flash.

Default HAC TRFs

A few questions arising from the above if I may...

Are the HAC now all wearing the Guards flash or is it just the band still?

The short lived HAC TRF was worn in 2015 but in a different alignment - see photo. Was the version shown by Tim worn as shown (as a 'W') rather than the other way up?

Lastly, does the A Battery ever wear maroon berets, outside of their 'I Passed P-Coy' photos?

Thanks for any info,
Colin
