Default 2nd V.B. East Kent Regt

This was a new one to me that sold on eBay this evening.

A 2nd V.B. East Kent Regiment badge, first I’d seen with a KC.

Luke,

Looks a cap badge size rather than a HPC & Crown size or am I mis judging it?

best wishes

Good eyes, you are spot on Simon.

I should have included this pic to show scale. It’s very similar in size to the standard Buffs badge.

There are a few Glengarry badges about with Kings crowns but very uncommon as far as I'm aware.

I may be wrong Ivan but believe those beautiful examples you show are made from HPCs?

To me this badge is more akin to the Border Rifle Volunteers in size being from a significantly smaller bespoke die. In the case of the latter, Height: 53mm and Width: 36mm.

I was thinking the white horse component from the centre could be used for the field service cap, but, I think it’s perhaps too small. You can see how small it is v’s the Buffs collar. Were it HPC size I think it certainly could’ve been.

I look forward to hearing Keith Blakeman’s thoughts.

Interesting, the roundel itself looks to be the same size as the pouch badge 35mm diameter (about two fingers width) but with a KC rather than the more regularly seen QVC. At first glance it looks like a marriage of parts of the circle, crown and horse and footed loops and my first impression was that the horse for some reason is unusually die cast and the crown a bit flat profile. Unfortunately the horse on my QVC pouch badge is different but has been lead soldered, maybe a repair as it's not the first detached horse in a Kent badge I have but could possibly be a replacement from a different helmet plate centre.

To be honest, I'm a bit pissed off I missed this despite numerous regular ebay searches for Kent badges, it's the first Edwardian 2nd VB Buffs like this I've seen, it's never appeared in the Bosley's badge catalogues and I'd have done my best to get it even for curiosity sake.

Finally, it could be a pouch badge but do to the size as mentioned above comparably with the Bucks, Border Rifles, QWR could just as easily be for a slouch hat
