Default Kent Cyclists plus two.

Port Sunlight antiques fair this morning was disappointing, however I did manage to get these three.
The Ulster Rifles and 14th/20th Hussars I'm happy with. Any pointers on the Kent Cyclists badge would be helpful, I do like the look of it......
Tony.

Thanks Alan of course West Kent Yeomanry wasn't aware of Dartford OTC connection.
Tony.

I am not convinced as they are rather fat headed horses that remind me of the Marsh fakes.

They are not Marsh die which has both hind legs attached to the scroll and both forelegs separated.

There is a closer die used for reproductions which I suspect is a re-used officers die. Often these are found on large 1950s (and after) font Gaunt London marks. But again it is not that.

I expect magpie’s examples are more akin to my third, as yet unidentified, badge.

I have been searching for a Dartford GS OTC photograph some time and cannot find one. The CCF badge is shown in wear in this photo. There is the Invicta Horse on the drum but it would be speculative to attribute it to either horse cap badge design.

These photos I think were used in the Dartfordian and/or from school records. The first marked on the right edge '......cadet corps c1914'. Interesting but unfortunately too small to ascertain horse shape.

I have nothing but a gut feeling that these are 2nd VB Buffs badges, I have yet to see anything other than a horse in their headress, ie: no dragons. They could however also be East Kent Rifles/1st VB Buffs prior to them wearing the black dragon badge with scroll.

Keith

That would explain this photo of Chatham cadets:

https://www.britishbadgeforum.com/fo...ighlight=buffs

If they were affiliated to the VB then it is probable that they wore the same cap badge with a horse rather than a dragon. As it is dated 1911 I can only assume they were slow to change after 1908 but as the badges was not named to the VB then there would be no reason to. Other OTCs kept their VB badges for some time. Dollar Academy wore the 7th Argyles for several years before they designed their own badge.

The Chatham cadets were about before 1908 so pre-dated OTCs whilst Dartford was 1909 so would have unlikely to have worn VB badges.
