Yes it is Naval Artillery Volunteers. No markings, most likely NZ made.

Never seen the NAV cap badge before, thanks for posting! I think a QVC badge exists but have never seen one.
I have a NAV button with a QVC, was there a KC button to match the cap badge?

I would be interested to see ANY buttons for the New Zealand NAV. I have seen the cap badges but never any images of the buttons worn. I had just assumed that like many similar units around the Empire they wore standard RN buttons.

Unlike the British RNAV which only existed during the Victorian period, the NAV in New Zealand existed until the 1900s so it would make sense that, if they had distinct buttons, they should have had a King's Crown version.

Pre 1889 NZ used the RNAV button, post 1889 we used the button with the letters NAV. Post 1902 we used NAV buttons with a Kings crown.
By December 1902 the NAV were to be called NZGAV units. So the KC NAV items were very short lived but were still worn until the new uniforms and distinctions came to hand.
