1st London Welsh......
(INS 7649)(W 100mm x H 14mm)
http://media.iwm.org.uk/iwm/mediaLib...3152/large.jpg (INS 7650).....khaki cloth badge (H 30mm x W 74mm) First World War battalion patches for the 15th Battalion, Royal Welch Fusiliers (1st London Welsh). The Battalion was raised in London in October 1914. It served in 113th Brigade in 38th (Welsh) Division and took part in the fighting for Mametz Wood (July 1916) and Pilckem Ridge (July-August 1917). The battalion was disbanded in February 1918. Three writers of distinction served in this battalion, namely, the poet and artist, David Jones whose 'In Parenthesis' 'is one of the most remarkable books to have emerged from the war' (J. M. Bourne, 'Who's Who in World War One', p. 147.); Wyn Griffiths, author of 'Up to Mametz' and the Welsh poet Ellis Humphrey Evans who took the name 'Hedd Wyn'. This badge was probably worn by other ranks in the battalion but often with the word battalion after London Welsh. It was worn on both sleeves above a yellow triangle. Later the yellow triangle was worn on the right arm and the 38th Divisional badge on the right arm. Jo
