Can you get a close up of the badges on the piper? plaid brooch,belt buckle etc. What makes you think they are SA?,could be Aussie!

Sorry but this is the best I can do,the seargent in the second thumbnail
could be wearing Kedives star?
I thought the photo was from the Boer war,and the Australian battalions
would not be wearing tartan then but I am unsure.

Looks to me like the Cameronians, or Scottish Rifles.
Probably in South Africa, given the slouch hat, or maybe in 1901/02 when the terai hat was standard issue for the British Army.
Certainly not Australian or South African as they had no units in trews.
