Where would I be without your sterling assistance...? I note the extra line of address on this one (& 13 Conduit St), does this help you in dating this specific example? Cheers, Roy.

Hi Roy
Firmins backmarks changed like the weather but it doesn't help narrow down the date for this one. The backmark was used APPROXIMATELY from the early 1850's - mid 1870's. It's impossible to give a precise date for it. They seemed to have dropped the "Conduit St" bit soon after becoming a Limited Company. So, button was made c. 1855/1856 - mid 1870's. It can't be earlier than that as it's a tunic button, coatees were worn prior to that. Incidentally, it was a large unit and I think expanded to two battalions around 1879, both wore the same button though. David |

Thanks for that David,
There's a lot of different York Militia buttons I note, I'm sure you have them all but an interesting study. One more (York) to share, so may do that tomorrow.. My goal now is to find a button you don't have.. Cheers, Roy.

Hi Gents,
So here is that last of my recent York Militia buttons purchased - this one East York by Jennens and at a rimmed 25mm I'm assuming a tunic button. Not perfect condition, showing some thinning of the silver plate to the high points but I believe a respectable example. Cheers, Roy.

Hi Roy
Perfectly "respectable" in my opinion! East York Militia Officers tunic button. That pattern worn c. 1855/1856 - 1881. Your button made c. 1855/1856 - 1860. David PS.... East York just had the one Militia Regt, unlike West York. |

Thank you David,
A nice little group of 'three' York buttons in this latest purchase, so no complaints here. All pretty decent condition too. Cheers, Roy.
