I knew I'd seen the blue peak illustrated, mentioned somewhere but it took me a while to find the booklet I wanted -illustrated here worn by a WWII era Wiltshire ACF member:

Great thanks for the info, assume then the one with blue strip would be his ACF one before he signed up at 18 and the other side cap/caubeen would be later.

I am lust about to send a 'blue cap insert' through to Leigh for free from a RUR veteran but from his badges I realise he was a WW2 ACF veteran as well.
The insert will be coming for free so there is no postage fee. RUR or also ACF is for Leigh to sort out for himself. Sorry Leigh I cannot put this on a plate for you. Best wishes, Ian |

If the blue peak came to you as part of a grouping then I feel that you should hang on to it, keep it together?
It's an Army Cadet Force item, worn by Cadets of many different regiments by the look of it. I don't remember reading of it in "British Army Uniforms and Equipment of WWII" by Brian Lee Davis, I'll dig the book out. Last edited by leigh kitchen; 15-08-20 at 09:57 AM. |

On a similar note, I am convinced that Cliff Richard and Keith Richards are twins who were separated at birth; Keith is known to have added the S to his surname.

After they changed their name from Webb.
I still think of Harry as "Riff Pilchard" rather than Cliff. |

More confirmation of the blue cloth strip being worn on ACF Field Service Caps. This is Wiltshire ACF again but they appear to be wearing the strip in a different position to the cap at the start of this thread. Presumably it was changed at a later date to the much neater position. Picture IWM.

Is it in a different position in that you mean there's more of the blue peak showing?
To me it looks as if it's worn slipped behind the khaki peak, giving a blue outline to it, as per the previous images on thread but I see what you mean by the height of the blue bit. I wonder why they didn't simply make the blue peak open at the bottom so that it slipped over the khaki one, having used far more blue fabric that actually showed. Here's the peak Ian very kindly sent me, it's about 18.5 cm wide by 5.5 cm tall.

Looking at the original picture again it is in the same postion on the cap but these inserts seem to be protruding much higher on some of the caps. It could be the cadets trying to look different.
Some dimensions would be appreciated of yours. |

I would say dimensions as mentioned above - but I've corrected those now (typo) - 18.5 cm X 5.5 cm

Another example of the blue peak.
A War Office letter dated 20th January 1942 held in National Archives file WO32/9709 instructs "The FS cap worn by cadet officers and cadets will be fitted with a distinguishing strip of dark blue cloth placed under the folding peak of the FS cap so that 1/4 inch of the material protrudes under the peak."
