Default AAC brass? type badge

Hi all, just received this AAC badge the excess metal version but it's not white metal it appears to have a thin brass plating on it,It's not as heavy as the WM badge has a definite pale brass colour but I scratched it on the back and it's a white metal beneath. It shows wear both on the lugs and front surface i have seen other threads showing this type but nothing conclusive regarding the metal any current ideas? Regards Roger

Hi Roger, hard to judge from the photo's, but could it be a film of rust?

Looks like the my shotguns chamber after a day of shooting corrosive ammunition, same with the barreels of the enfields I've shot, almost like a layer of bonded power, anyone ever seen "corrosion" on aluminium/stainless flues, amost like the powder has bonded through heat etc. ??? Couldn't be a fakers way could it, use black powder pistols mercury fulminate primers to induce an aged appearance....??? If I can deconstruct one of my cheap shells (SAGA, horrid corrosive primers....) I'll test it on a mess tin or something similar....

Don't think so this is not a powder finish. The colour on the front was same as the back but its polished down but what would be the purpose of faking it solid brass is hardly expensive.

Aging is supplementary to the badge, not surmising it was an attempt to make it look brassy, the theory was simply a postulation. The photo's are inconclusive on my monitor. Also laying logic to people who create badges that never existed seems illogical ;-)
