LRDG Tail "PUN"
Ok guys,
A question for you blokes LRDG badges, I'm a bit confused atm regarding the variations of the badges. Now the badges I have handled "a few" some from the vets, some from vets family's and some from dealers now simple odds and ends I have seen, shallow backs, non shallow backs, the color and quality of the metal, and also the slight variation between what some people call the first pattern and second pattern. But now there is a badge that has a lot of differences that I have seen on any of the badges I have handled. Its been sold by a good standing member of this forum so I don't doubt what he is saying, but none the less, can anyone tell me more about this variant badge as I would hate to pass up on one due to what I think is not correct. I was always under the belief that the claws and tail should never touch etc but I'm always willing to change my view, this badge looks very much like others I have seen with the Gaunt stamp on the back for sale on ebay, but its a bit cleaner in the casting, but I guess this is due to the untrained eye persay, I have only handled a few badges, so I'm no expert thats for sure but looking forward to the views and notes from other people Regards -Ric Last edited by Kiwi ric; 12-05-10 at 11:41 AM. |

Voided letters, as this one has, is always a good sign.

Yeah, I have never stood by the attached tail... dud theory, I think it's a lot deeper than that, like the PPA badges...

I abide by the loose tail theory being the only good ones. Reason is that I have never seen ww2 era LRDG photos with a closed tail. Happy also to hear anything which proofs the contrary.

I noticed that the back of the body of the scorpion appears to be more shallow than the attached example. I have also looked in Brendan O' Caroll's Kiwi Scorpions book and that example appears to have a deeper hollow back. Any thoughts?
