Default WW1 Medal Entitlement

Hi
I had a thread last month where I was trying to get my Grandfathers WW1 medal entitlement.I had some very helpful advice from Charlie and one or two others. His service record indicated he was entitled to the victory and BWM however he had F forfeit and R ran alongside.I was confused as he served from 1916 until 1918 then was sent to Russia where he deserted in 1920 consequently thought he was eligible to the medals. Apparently the Russian theatre of operations was classed as WW1 thus the forfeiture. I was very interested to learn that fact about the Russian theatre of operations..As a note he went on to serve in WW2 survived Dunkirk and Normandy.

Given that, in 1920, deserters were still liable to be executed by firing squad, it looks like he was a very lucky man. Good for him.
