Default Naval Dockyard Police Patch RAN

Trying to find out about this patch is it a fantasy one or was it worn and when.
'Naval Dockyard Police' Royal Australian Navy. This is me first foray to this site and hope that it may lead to some answers of other question.

Hi Harry, that is the design of the NDP badge in Australia from about 1929 but I am unaware that it was worn in cloth. As far as I know it was a voided metal badge. Perhaps a blazer or mufti badge?

Looks very "new" for such an "old" force.

Default NDP Patch

Thanks Keith for your reply. Yes, I have the N.D.P metal cap badge it was just this patch it didn't seem right to be worn as a uniform patch. I'm trying to tie down dates for the cap badge and you say from 1925. Was this when the helmet and large helmet plate was changed over to a the cap and cap badge.I am trying to finish a project which I started nearly forty years ago which is the
'Admiralty, Arm & Air Force raised Police Forces (Overseas)' the NPF is to be included so I am trying to get the dates right if possible. As you are over in Australia any help would be appreciated. I attach a draft cover of the book.
Thanks, Harry Wynne.

The best place for information on the Naval Dockyard Police is
Kit Muster 2012 by John Perryman, Chapter 11 has very good details on all aspects of the NDP.
A quick glance over the pages does not show a cloth badge but the helmet was replaced by a cap in 1919 and this is when the three line badge came in.
A helmet plate was introduced in 1914.

I followed Barry's info and looked in Kit Muster, nearly forgot I had it. The metal NDP badge was worn 1919-1968, with a KC all the way through this period. No mention of cloth at all.

This looks like a modern patch and not something worn prior to 1953.

I suspect its probably a souvenir patch someone had made up.

Hi Keith and Barry, Thank you so much for the information that you have supplied which I have been looking for years. The book 'Kit Muster' doesn't seem to be available here in the UK, do you think it is worth trying to purchase a copy just for the chapter on the NDP? I feel quite elated that it has come this far in a short time from the other side of the world. What great asset the members of the forum are when they come together to help. Thank you, Harry

The RAN Seapower Centre gave them away for nothing several years ago, fantastically detailed book. I did see one for sale on ebay recently, can't remember what they were asking for it.

Chapter 11 is a small chapter, will see what I can do with my phone when I get home from work today and will PM you.

Keith

Hi Keith, Thank you for your response and your help. Please find images attached which I have had for many years although I have not collected for a long long time. I'm not sure about number two I have seen it described as a cap badge? Thanks again for your time for which I am grateful. Harry

Thank you 'Badge Collector' for thinking about me and have had a look at it. I've put a watch on it. You never know your luck. Suprising how many people on the Forum look after one another. I think we develop a mutal respect for each other that goes a long way. Thanks again, Harry Wynne.
