KRRC - which regiments wore KRRC badge?
Can anyone share information on which regiments wore the cap badge (or variants thereof) of the King's Royal Rifle Corps during WW1 period?
I am aware of KRRC, some battalions of the London Regiment, and the Leeds Rifles (West Yorks Regiment) (correction: not Leeds Rifles). Which other regiments wore the badge? Any information appreciated! Last edited by DougSA; 31-03-22 at 11:19 AM. |

Just to confirm are you asking which Battalions in WW1 wore a Maltese cross style badge with a tablet and crown in BB regardless of size, intra-badge design, mottos or battle honours?

The Leeds Rifles badge has a wreath (like The Rifle Brigade). The KRRC hasn't.
Thus do you ask for both with and without wreath?

6th Battalion, The East Surrey Regiment had a Maltese type cross, but no crown.

And a Maltese cross features in the badge of The Border Regiment (TA Battalions differing from the regulars).

I would say the 6th London, 9th (Queen Victoria’s Rifles) London and 11th (Finsbury Rifles) London are the badges with closest resemblance in terms of outline which is practically identical to KRRC. Both are commonly BB.
The 16th (QWR) London follows the basic design but has a significantly larger circlet to accommodate the portcullis so couldn’t be confused with the former badges. As Henk says the Leeds Rifles encloses the Maltese cross within a wreath. Several other regiments and battalions have such a badge albeit not all their badges are BB e.g. 8th (Post Office Rifles) London, 19th (St. Pancras) London, Leeds Rifles, Robin Hood Rifles, Rifle Brigade. Others have the Maltese cross with added scroll like the 12th (Rangers) London or superimposed on a star like the 4th and 5th Border Regt. Others like the Bucks Battalion do not have the tablet above the Maltese cross or the 6th East* Surrey which has no tablet and no crown. I suppose it depends how closely you want it to resemble the KRRC badge. Last edited by Luke H; 31-03-22 at 12:02 PM. Reason: forgot East* |

Here it is, below.
In addition to the above I forgot the 21st (First Surrey Rifles) London which does feature a Maltese cross with scrolls above and below. It is significant smaller than a standard WW1 era KRRC. |

I assume that this would have been worn by both 1/6th and 2/6th Battalions during WW1. Would this be correct?
